Tool sharpening — chisels, garden shears & more

The same slow, water-cooled wheel that sharpens our customers' knives puts working edges back on workshop and garden tools. A chisel that pares instead of tears, shears that cut instead of chew — posted to us from anywhere in Australia, or collected around Lake Macquarie.

What we sharpen

🪵 Wood chisels & plane blades

Flat-backed and honed to a consistent bevel on the jig — the difference between paring end grain cleanly and bruising it. Mushroomed or nicked edges reshaped where the steel allows.

🌿 Garden shears, secateurs & loppers

A clean bypass edge cuts stems instead of crushing them — better for your hands and for the plant. We sharpen the bevel, ease the burr, and check the pivot action.

🪓 Axes, hatchets & machetes

Splitting and felling edges profiled for the job — keen enough to bite, robust enough not to chip on the next knot.

✂️ Kitchen scissors & cleavers

Kitchen scissors get both blades trued and set; heavy meat cleavers get a durable working edge that stands up to the block.

Not sure your tool fits one of these? Ask first — if we can't do it properly, we'll say so rather than do a half-job.

Why the water-cooled wheel matters for tools

Chisels and garden tools usually get sharpened on fast dry grinders — which is exactly how their edges get ruined. A dry wheel builds heat in seconds; the steel discolours, loses its temper, and the edge folds the first time it hits hardwood or a woody stem. Our wheel turns slowly through a water bath, so the steel stays cool and keeps the hardness the maker put into it, and the consistent-angle jig grinds one flat, even bevel instead of a hand-held guess.

Every edge is finished by hand on a leather honing wheel and covered by the same no-fix-no-fee guarantee as our knives: if it isn't right, we redo it free — still not right, that edge is refunded.

How to get tools to us

While they're in the satchel…

Most people send their kitchen knives in the same order — the satchel's already paid for, and knives are $15 each (fishing, hunting and pocket knives too, with premium care for Japanese single-bevel and specialty steels). There's also knife-care gear that ships free with any order, and gift cards if you know someone whose shed is full of blunt tools.
